Cement is the basic binding agent for concrete, a widely used, versatile construction material. Eagle Materials' four cement manufacturing facilities are located in Illinois, Nevada, Texas* and Wyoming.
During fiscal 2007, we expanded and modernized our Illinois Cement facility. The project expanded the plant's annual cement manufacturing capacity by 70 percent to 1.1 million tons and lowered the cost structure of the plant by 20 percent.
All of our cement facility upgrades share common goals: to provide additional capacity to satisfy future growth in demand, and to facilitiate substantial improvement in our energy consumption and per unit production costs. Since completing the modernization and expansion projects, we have an outstanding portfolio of cement assets with nearly 4 million tons of annual cement production capacity. Each of our cement plants are highly efficient and appropriately sized for the markets in which they compete.
*Eagle Material Inc.'s cement plant in Texas is operated through a 50/50 joint venture.
